In the 1970's Robert would on most days get up in the morning ang pack a camera bag with any of the wide array of camera he had available, from the compact 35MM, to the medium format Hasselblad 2 1/4 inch film camera, and sometimes a 4x5 Speed Graphic, which required a strong back and many preloaded film holders. He would then pick a neighborhood and drive to it, park, and walk around for a good subject to photograph. Many times he would sit and talk to his subjects for hours about their lives to put them at ease with his presence. Often he would return a few days later to hand them 8x10 prints that he had made for them to hang in their houses.
